Kristiansand Dyrepark
Norway’s largest family attraction Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park situated in the south of Norway has consolidated its position as the most innovative family attraction in Norway.
About the company
Year after year, Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park has topped all the official lists as the most visited family attraction in Norway. The Park has achieved a unique position in the consciousness of Norwegians as a multi-day attraction. With more than one million visitors a year, in a country with just over five million inhabitants, the Park appeals to people of all ages.
Several of the Park`s attractions are themed around Norway`s best-known children`s stories. The most popular shows, featuring the pirate character Captain Sabertooth have run since 1989, and is watched by nearly 70 000 visitors each summer in July. Two of the stories written by Norway`s most renowned author of children`s books, Thorbjørn Egner, have their own themed space in the Park: Cardamom Town and The Forest of Huckybucky. The latter opened in 2015 and was an immediate success.
Dyreparken's Brands
Dyreparken
The Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park stands out as different from other European zoos, some of which are characterized by bars and heavy padlocks. In Kristiansand Zoo, the animals live in wide-open spaces, with as much freedom as possible and in a natural environment. The Park also offers themed park attractions and live entertainment, delivering a unique guest experience.
Dyreparken Badeland
The water park has indoor and outdoor themed slides, splash pads, lazy rivers and pools. The grounds are perfect for sunny or rainy days. A beach club for tweens opened in 2021.
Abra Havn
The Nordic’s first pirate themed hotel. Built as a pirate village with 171 apartments and walking distance to the Park. This is where Captain Sabertooth rules and families love to stay. In 2018, Abra Havn was voted the world`s 6th best family hotel by TripAdvisor.
Dyreparken Safari Hotel
Dyreparken Safari Hotel is located right by the Park`s main entrance. This unique safari themed family hotel has spectacular view to both the Park`s savannah, where giraffes, ostrich and zebras wander, and to “Grashavet” - the lake where Captain Sabertooth and his men ravages. This hotel is also a popular place to host a conference.
Dyreparken Safari Camp
Right by the Safari Hotel we find Dyreparken Safari Camp. Stay in real safari tents, and wake up to the roars from the lions, which you can hear all the way from inside the Park. Several of the safari tents have view over the lake “Grashavet”, and some of the tents are even located directly on the water.
Cardamom Town
Cardamom Town is one of the Park`s most popular attractions. Cardamom Town is a small town located in the middle of the zoo, and eight of the houses are rental houses. During the summer season the town is filled with characters from Thorbjørn Egners well known story about the town.
Julius Forest
One of Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park`s biggest brands is Julius, a chimpanzee that grew up with humans in the early 1980s. Julius is now the leader of the zoos chimpanzee heard, and in 2021 the “Julius forest” opened. This accommodation is our most affordable option and consists of 120 mini-cabins in the forest. Above the cabins there is a large climbing trail where the guests can play, and we guarantee that the children will find a playmate immediately after check in!
Dyreparken RV Camp (Dyreparken Bobilcamp)
Located right by the lake “Grashavet” we find Dyreparken RV Camp, which has space for 25 campers. Enjoy staying in your own unit during the visit, and watch the sun set over the water and the pirate ships sail by in the evening. Only available upon drop in.
Roligheden Camping
In collaboration with Kristiansand municipality, Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park operates Roligheden Camping in downtown Kristiansand. This is a camping site that welcomes guests with motorhomes, caravans, tents and hammocks
